According to Reuters, on September 14, the Egyptian Interior Ministry issued a statement saying that police and military forces mistakenly fired on a convoy of Mexican tourists during clashes with armed militants in the western Egyptian desert, killing 12 people and injuring 10 others.

The statement read: “A combined force of police and military, while pursuing terrorists in an oasis area of ​​the western desert on the night of September 13, inadvertently struck four vehicles carrying Mexican tourists. The incident resulted in the deaths of 12 Mexicans and Egyptians and injuries to 10 others.”
