Japanese police confirm Vietnamese girl dead after 2 days missing

NHK television station in the 6 p.m. news on March 26 reported that Japanese police confirmed that the body of the girl discovered on the riverbank of Akibo city, Chiba was Le Thi Nhat Linh, a Vietnamese national who had been missing since the morning of March 24 in Chiba province.

Earlier in the day, Japanese media reported on the disappearance of a Vietnamese girl. According to Nikkei and Sankei newspapers, Japanese police confirmed that Le Thi Nhat Linh, a Vietnamese girl, 9 years old, about 130cm tall, a third grader at Matsudo Junior High School, Chiba Prefecture, had been missing since the morning of March 24.

The disappearance was confirmed after the school teacher called the family to inform them that Nhat Linh had not arrived at school and that relatives had reported the matter to the police after failing to find her. According to online sources, because the school was close to home and was a familiar route, she often went to school alone. A security camera recorded a car on the route Linh took to school and it seemed to have been following her for about a month. However, the license plate was covered.

At the time of her disappearance, Nhat Linh was wearing a gray jacket, a yellow hat, and a red backpack. While the fate of Nhat Linh is still unclear, authorities discovered the body of a girl about 10 years old at a location near where the disappearance was confirmed to have occurred.

According to JNN TV, Sankei and Nikkei newspapers, at around 7am on March 26, a man fishing discovered the body of a girl about 10 years old dead, without clothes and without papers, on a riverbank in Akibo city, Chiba. The place where the girl's body was found was about 12km from the scene of Nhat Linh's disappearance.

In the latest news broadcast at 6 p.m. on March 26, NHK television station said that the police confirmed that the girl's body found on the riverbank was Nhat Linh.
