Spanish police prevent Catalans from voting for independence
Spanish National Guard and Civil Guards confiscated ballot boxes and ballot papers during the Catalan independence referendum, - Spanish Interior Minister Juan Ignacio Zoido confirmed.

"Police confiscated ballot boxes, enforced legal provisions and laws related to the illegal referendum," - the head of the Interior Ministry wrote on Twitter.
He posted a video showing ballots being taken out of the polling station building. People standing near the building expressed their disapproval.
At 9:00 a.m. on October 1, local time, voting began in Catalonia for a referendum on independence that was not recognized by the Spanish government and banned by the country's Constitutional Court.
Police said they controlled most of the 2,315 polling stations. Some were confiscating documents, and there were clashes between police and voters. However, voting still took place at some stations.
