A warning to those in power

Strictly handling violations also warns those in power to do their duties well and respect honor and ethics.

After the court sentenced two former police officers in the “trillion-dong gambling protection” case, last weekend, the investigation agency prosecuted two former Deputy Ministers of Public Security for “lack of responsibility, causing serious consequences.” This is a strict and necessary action to build a clean and strong police force.

Mr. Tran Viet Tan (left) and Mr. BuiVan Thanh (right), former Deputy Minister of Public Security, has just been prosecuted.

To be fair, the vast majority of officers and soldiers in the police force currently have an average standard of living, their income entirely coming from state salaries. Many of them are in difficult circumstances, and the majority of officers and soldiers still maintain the good qualities of a people's police officer.
But it cannot be denied that a number of police officers (including officers holding high positions) have "lost" the people's trust due to degeneration and corruption; due to abusing the power assigned to them for personal gain; and shielding and protecting their own interest groups.

It's not that the people don't know; it's not that the cadres and soldiers at their workplaces don't know; it's not that the Party committees where they work and their superiors don't hear the whispers.

But the difficulty is that these degenerate and corrupt elements are holding some leadership position, or have "friendly" or "crony" relationships with people in power inside and outside the force. And because of that, these degenerate individuals and interest groups are sliding down the path of crime.

It is not without reason that public opinion questions the responsibility of the police force for the violations of the law that have been and are taking place. For example: Overloaded vehicles running on the roads - is it true that the police do not know? The situation of smuggling, trade fraud; the situation of indiscriminate exploitation of mineral resources - is there anyone covering it up?

Debt collection, black credit, gambling, rampant "gangsters" - is there anyone to protect them? The decision to inspect businesses, prosecute, then "sink" - is there anyone harassing and extorting? Even small things, like beer shops encroaching on sidewalks - who is behind them?...

However, it is also necessary to clearly distinguish between the police force and individuals in the industry who commit mistakes, shortcomings, and violate the law. It is incorrect to think that publicizing mistakes and shortcomings; disciplining and prosecuting many police officers in recent times is synonymous with "badmouthing the force".

But if we "sweep the blame on all" just because of individual violations, denying all the achievements, feats, and silent sacrifices and losses of many police officers and soldiers, then that is a biased, ill-intentioned, and extremely extreme attitude towards the people's police force.

The recent strict discipline or criminal prosecution of a number of generals and senior officers in the police force has been supported by public opinion. This action further increases the will and strength of officers and soldiers in the industry, and strengthens the people's trust in the police force.

Strictly handling violations also warns those who are given power to do their duty well, to value the honor and ethics of the people's police above trivial fame and profit; and to warn those who "have gotten their hands dirty, to wash themselves clean and stand up" if they do not want to pay a heavy price.

Along with fighting against individuals with negative behavior in the force, the issue of streamlining staff and reducing unnecessary administrative procedures... is being vigorously implemented by the Ministry of Public Security and is highly appreciated by public opinion.

People across the country are paying close attention and acknowledging the police as the pioneer force in restructuring the apparatus; exemplary in "matching words with actions" so that the "sacred sword of the regime" is light, sharp, and clean - for the peace and happiness of the people./.
