Vietnamese Wing Chun master knocks out "Czechoslovakia giant"

After a series of blows that were like... rifle fire against a tank, the Wing Chun master, quick as lightning, spun around and unleashed a One-Inch Punch to the temple, stunning the giant.

After performing several medical treatments on two patients suffering from strokes and herniated discs, martial arts master Nguyen Khac Chuong – Head of the Y Vo Thien Phuc martial arts school – took a break, sipped a cup of tea, and then told us about special memories from his 30 years dedicated to martial arts.

The unexpected showdown left the "Czechoslovakian giant" stunned.

Master Chương recounted that he began learning martial arts at the age of 16 with the Shaolin Kunlun style. However, realizing that martial arts is a vast and profound field, he went abroad at a very young age to study Taekwondo and Southern Shaolin.

One day (in 1988), Nguyen Khac Chuong met a master of Wing Chun, a man with the "golden hands" of Vietnamese martial arts - the late martial artist Trinh Quoc Dinh, and immediately bowed to the senior as his master.

For months on end, Khac Chuong practiced both Southern Shaolin and Wing Chun, one teacher in the morning, another in the afternoon. With his natural talent, his martial arts skills quickly reached a mastery level.

However, being an engineer, Khac Chuong was sent to Czechoslovakia (now the Czech Republic) with a transport company to study and work in tram repair.

In a foreign land, Khac Chuong found a martial arts club to fulfill his long-held passion.

Master Chương recounted that back then, society in Czechoslovakia was still very complicated. Every night, groups of young black men and thugs would get into fights everywhere.

On numerous occasions, when people learned of his "Asian kung-fu" skills, they would flock to him to pick fights or seek a sparring match after his night shift ended. However, he never once encountered a worthy opponent.

After numerous confrontations, Nguyen Khac Chuong became a well-known name abroad. Then, one day, he was finally challenged by an opponent who had never before revealed himself.

Surprisingly, this rival turned out to be Nguyen Khac Chuong's "boss," a shift supervisor named Petr, who also worked with him at the tram repair workshop.

When it comes to physical strength, this guy is unrivaled in the whole region. He's about 2 meters tall, weighs around 120 kg, and has bulging muscles.

Normally, the magnetic brakes on a ship weigh around 150 kg, and when installing them, you need a wheelbarrow to lift them up and tighten the bolts. But he only needed to lift them with both hands and hold them steady; others just tightened the bolts, and his face remained expressionless.

Seeing that Nguyen Khac Chuong's reputation was growing, the man decided to choose a fine night and challenge Chuong to a duel.

Upon meeting, he bluntly stated, "Today, you and I will test our skills against each other. I want to know what Asian martial arts are like, but I believe a tight hug will be enough to suffocate you!"

Although he didn't want to get into a conflict, Khac Chuong accepted the offer because of the boss's straightforward and honest nature.

The two men stared at each other for a few seconds. Khac Chuong assumed a defensive stance, and the bodyguard also spread his arms and stood in a fighting position. Khac Chuong unleashed several powerful kicks, but the man remained motionless, not bothering to counterattack, as if thinking to himself, "Go ahead and hit me as hard as you want!"

Unable to counter kicks, Khac Chuong threw about a dozen more punches, but the opponent remained unharmed. At this point, realizing he had encountered a master, Khac Chuong suddenly thought:

"Attack him with conventional blows now, it's like using a rifle to shoot a tank; we need to switch to a different tactic."

Suddenly, Khac Chuong unleashed several powerful kicks to the shins. At this point, feeling the pain, the bodyguard became enraged and began to counterattack.

But just as he withdrew his hand, preparing to unleash a thunderous punch, Khac Chuong, quick as lightning, spun around, delivering a One-Inch Punch to his temple, then followed up with a kick to his groin. The guardian was stunned and collapsed to the floor.

After a while, he regained his composure. He approached Nguyen Khac Chuong and said, "Your martial arts skills are truly impressive. Today, I've truly had my eyes opened!"

Despite being in his fifties, martial arts master Nguyen Khac Chuong still possesses remarkably quick reflexes..

Unable to defeat their opponent, they resort to a strategy of sowing discord.

After four years in Czechoslovakia, Nguyen Khac Chuong returned to Vietnam and dedicated himself to martial arts. Since then, he hasn't stepped into the ring to compete, but even so, "street" fights, without any rules or regulations, still occur regularly.

About two years ago, despite his advanced age, he still had a similar match with a friend in Saigon.

During one of his trips south, a friend, also a young but renowned martial arts master from Saigon, insisted on inviting him to his home to test their skills and see if the man known as the "divine power master" in Hanoi lived up to his reputation.

Faced with his friend's kind offer, martial arts master Chương had no choice but to accept.

After being at my friend's house for a while, while we were chatting, my friend suddenly ran to the gate, picked up a very hard, solid brick, brought it inside, and said:

"Your martial arts skills are so famous; I occasionally see you perform Iron Sand Palm, breaking through concrete. Can you shatter this brick with a single blow?"

Master Chương said nothing, but simply raised his hand slightly, gave a tap, and the brick shattered. His friend suddenly fell silent for a moment.

"Your limbs may be big, but they're probably not as strong as mine. If we were to fight, I think you'd have a hard time defending yourself..." - my friend said, pointing to his hands, which resembled ripe bananas.

After a moment of thought, Master Chương said, "Do you have a spacious place at your house where we can practice a few moves?" Immediately, his friend led him downstairs.

But surprisingly, the match only lasted about two minutes. With a powerful punch, the guest sent his friend flying over the table.

Having been hit hard, the host immediately conceded defeat and said:

"At first, I thought I could beat you easily because I'd competed all over the south without a loss. But today, I realized you're a different person. I'd heard many people talk about you, but I didn't believe them. Today, I do."

Afterward, the friend insisted on inviting Master Chương to stay for a meal to show his admiration.

Master Nguyen Khac Chuong is praised by the martial arts community as a person with "supernatural strength and skill."

Master Nguyen Khac Chuong recounted that since he started teaching Wing Chun nearly 30 years ago, many people have come to his dojo to challenge him to a fight. Some came with pleasant words, while others used insulting and abusive language.

On the 29th day of the Lunar New Year in 2014, as martial arts master Chương was about to go to his wife's parents' house for the New Year's Eve dinner, four guests suddenly arrived at the dojo wanting to "spar." Among these four, one had previously been defeated but was still unconvinced and expressed a desire for a rematch.

However, the outcome remained unchanged. The four guests took turns sparring, but all were defeated after just a few moves; some were even knocked out in just 3 seconds.

Martial arts master Nguyen Khac Chuong recounted that he had never been defeated. However, he had been the victim of envy and resentment three times, through repeated and identical divisive tactics.

Those were instances where opponents came to challenge him but lost. Afterwards, they resorted to incitement tactics, persuading their trusted disciples to turn against him, or collectively resigning from the martial arts school.

“The taller the tree, the stronger the wind. The more achievements one has, the more controversies one will inevitably face. Even the illustrious Nguyen Trai of yesteryear was sentenced to the extermination of his entire family, let alone me,” – martial arts master Nguyen Khac Chuong said about what he finds most distressing.

The martial arts master also confided that, in truth, he never cared about winning or losing, and even less about fame or fortune.

Therefore, he taught martial arts for over 20 years to thousands of students both domestically and internationally, even going to patients' homes to treat them, but he never charged a single penny in tuition fees, even though he often didn't have enough to eat.

Since establishing Thien Phuc Martial Arts School to teach martial arts combined with healing and saving lives, he has only charged tuition fees at a level sufficient to maintain the school.

Besides teaching martial arts, Master Nguyen Khac Chuong placed particular importance on healing the sick and saving lives.

Martial arts master Nguyen Khac Chuong said: "The ultimate goal of practicing martial arts is not to fight. Those who practice martial arts should not think about the 'I,' but rather about the 'We,' about the community, only then should they practice martial arts."

“Our enemy isn’t some martial arts master, but ourselves. We learn martial arts to conquer ourselves, without fear of life or death, without discussing victory or defeat, without caring about fame or fortune, to place everything in the void…” – the martial arts master smiled.
