The Dien Chau - Bai Vot section of the North-South Expressway has 32 bridge projects.

According to the design, the Dien Chau - Bai Vot expressway section has its starting point at (Km430+000), behind the intersection with the National Highway.7 (The end point of the Nghi Son - Dien Chau section investment project is located in Dien Cat commune, Dien Chau district, Nghe An province. The end point is Km4.7(9+300), behind the intersection with National Highway 8A, located in Duc Thinh commune, Duc Tho district, Ha Tinh province.

The route heads south from the intersection with the National Highway.7 The route cuts through the Southeast Economic Zone (intersecting with N1 and N2 roads of the Southeast Economic Zone), follows the Chach mountain pass, crosses Xuan Duong Lake, then crosses Than Vu Mountain, continues south and crosses the Nam Cam Industrial Zone (intersecting with N5 road in the Nam Cam Industrial Zone and the old National Highway 48E - Provincial Road 534).

The route continues southeast, east of the Scythe Mountain, intersecting with National Highway 46B bypassing Vinh city; it continues parallel to the Vinh bypass for about 50m, intersecting with the current National Highway 46, crossing Provincial Road 542C and crossing the Thong Nhat railway line in Hung Thang commune, Hung Nguyen district, winding through the gap between Thanh Mountain and Non Mountain, crossing the left bank of the Lam River and National Highway 46C at the border of Hung Phu and Hung Khanh communes, crossing the right bank of the Lam River and intersecting with National Highway 8A, the final point is located after the National Highway 8A intersection, in Duc Thinh commune, Duc Tho district, Ha Tinh province.

The road is being constructed as a Class 100-120 highway, with a design speed of 100-120 km/h (according to the TCVN Highway Standard), except for the section through Than Vu Mountain which has a design speed of 80 km/h; the initial phase of investment will have 4 lanes, with a speed of 80 km/h. The completed highway will have 6 lanes, with a roadbed width of 32.25m. The total length of the route is approximately 49.3 km.

On the Dien Chau - Bai Vot section, a total of 32 bridge structures are under construction, including: 23 bridges on the expressway, 5 overpasses directly connecting to the expressway, 3 bridges within the interchange, and 1 bridge on the service road.

Thirty-two bridges will be constructed along the route (Illustrative image).

Bridges on the highway have a width of 17.5m; comprising 4 highway lanes; Overpasses have a width appropriate to the scale of the current road. The bridges on the main route have a width of 17.5 km, including: Nhan Ly Bridge, Xuan Duong 1 Bridge, Xuan Duong 2 Bridge, Than Vu 1 Bridge, Than Vu 2 Bridge, O O Bridge, Nghi Phuong 1 Bridge, Nghi Phuong 2 Bridge, Nghi My Bridge, Hung Trung 1 Bridge, Hung Trung 2 Bridge, Hung Yen Nam Bridge, Hung Tay Bridge, National Highway 46B Overpass, old National Highway 46 Overpass, Song Dao 1 Bridge, Song Dao 2 Bridge, Song Dao 3 Bridge, Provincial Road 542C Bridge, Hung Thang 1 Bridge, Hung Thang 2 Bridge, Hung Thang 3 Bridge, and Hung Duc Bridge.

Bridge on the service road: Nhan Ly Bridge, 15m wide.

Interchange bridges: Interchange with N5 road (12m wide), intersection with QL46B (20.5m), intersection with QL8 (16.5m), intersection with N5 road.

The total investment capital for the Dien Chau - Bai Vot expressway project is approximately 13,338 billion VND. This includes compensation, support, and resettlement costs.Approximately 1.303 billion VND (1.100 billion VND for the section passing through Nghe An province, and 201 billion VND for the section passing through Ha Tinh province).

Thus, the North-South Expressway through Nghe An has two component projects: the Nghi Son to Dien Chau section of the expressway and the Dien Chau - Bai Vot section. Both projects will be implemented in the 2017-2020 period.
