According to the plan, on June 5, branch S1 of the AAG international submarine cable will be repaired by an international partner, affecting Internet connection services from Vietnam to Hong Kong and the US.

The AAG international submarine cable has a total length of 20,000 km and a design capacity of up to 2 Terabit/second. This is the first cable connecting Southeast Asia and the US, using optical wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) technology.

Officially put into operation since November 2009, this fiber optic cable line starts from Malaysia and ends in the US, with landing points at Mersing (Malaysia), Changi (Singapore), Sri Racha (Thailand), Tungku (Bruney), Vung Tau (Vietnam), Currimao (Philippines), South Lantau (Hong Kong), Guam (USA), Hawaii (USA)... The cable branch into Vietnam is located in section S1 with a length of 314 km.

In the information just released today, May 26, 2018, VNPT said that this network operator recently received a notice from an international partner about repairing the AAG submarine cable.

The AAG international submarine cable is the first cable connecting Southeast Asia and the US, using optical wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) technology, connecting Vietnam with the territories of Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, Hong Kong, the Philippines and the US.

Specifically, regarding the repair schedule of the AAG submarine cable, VNPT said that from 11pm on May 22, 2018 to May 27, 2018, the international partner will repair the AAG cable (branch S1) to Hong Kong and the US. Next, from June 1, 2018 to June 5, 2018, the repair will be carried out on the AAG submarine cable (branch S1) with traffic passing through Vietnam's Vung Tau cable station.

Also in the newly released information, a representative of VNPT stated that the repair of the AAG international submarine cable (branch S1) will affect the use of international Internet services of customers. "Immediately after receiving the notice, VNPT immediately took the initiative to route Internet traffic to other cable directions to ensure the quality of service for customers. At the same time, VNPT also coordinated with partners to shorten the repair time of the AAG cable", a representative of VNPT shared.

Expressing the hope of receiving sympathy from customers, VNPT also said that in the coming time, it will continue to update new information about the repair situation of the AAG international submarine cable.

In fact, since its operation in 2009, the AAG international submarine cable has encountered many problems, requiring repairs and maintenance, greatly affecting the service provision of network operators to customers. The most recent time AAG suffered a communication interruption was on January 6, 2018, when the international partner reconfigured the source of this submarine cable.

With the above incident, although it was expected to be fully restored on January 9, 2018, due to the discovery of a new error on the S1 branch cable, on January 19, the international partner re-announced the plan to reconfigure the power source for the entire S1 branch on the AAG submarine cable to fix the error.

At that time, the expected time given by the international partner was to start from 7:00 a.m. on January 21, 2018 and end on January 25, 2018. On January 25, VNPT said that the reconfiguration of the source for the entire S1 branch to fix the error was carried out from 7:15 a.m. on January 21, 2018 and completed at 9:40 p.m. on January 23, 2018, completely restoring traffic on the AAG submarine cable.
