Confusing 'twin' signposts on Highway 16

(Baonghean.vn) - The "twin" number columns is a humorous way of saying that many locals use to refer to the two duplicate signposts on National Highway 16, through Huoi Tu commune (Ky Son).

As of the afternoon of November 28, 2017, at Km 389, National Highway 16 in Huoi Thang village, Huoi Tu commune (Ky Son), there is an additional instruction "M.Xen 19km". According to the instruction, this location is 19km from Muong Xen town, Ky Son district.

However, 1km away there is also a similar signpost: “M.Xen 19km”. This number post reads “Km 390” located near the Huoi Tu - Pha Danh Regional Clinic. Both number posts are located 1m above the road surface, making them easy to see.

Many locals said that these duplicate numbered columns have been there for months. “People who are familiar with the road are fine, but strangers will feel confused when they see such directions,” one resident added.

Speaking to the Huoi Tu Road Management Department, the Department Head Nguyen Hong Thieu said that he personally did not know about the duplicate instructions on the two above mentioned numbered columns. Mr. Thieu said that the construction of the milestones, numbered columns, and signs was won by a business named Ha Anh, and has not yet been accepted and handed over to the management unit.

Mr. Thieu also added that the acceptance should have been carried out in June 2017, however, the enterprise encountered difficulties in construction. Recently, there has been a lot of rain in the area, so the handover and acceptance were delayed.

On Highway 16, the section passing through Huoi Tu commune, there are also landslides that cause concern for road users. Among these, there are 3 landslides that have existed for the past six months.
