Although the patient's anal wound had been stitched up at the commune health station, it continued to bleed. The surgical team from the Digestive Surgery Department immediately performed emergency surgery on the patient, realizing that the patient's condition was critical and could deteriorate due to hemorrhagic shock.
Master, Doctor Dinh Van Chien, the surgeon of the emergency surgery, commented: “When admitted to the hospital, patient Nguyen Van Muoi had a large tear in the anus and rectum, penetrating into the abdominal cavity. The buffalo gore wound caused contusion of the anterior bladder wall and swelling of the perineum. The closed wounds in the anus caused continuous bleeding that could not be stopped without emergency surgery. The on-call team quickly reconstructed the anal sphincter and rectum; cut and cleaned, treated and stopped bleeding in the pelvic area; and simultaneously opened the abdomen to clean the abdominal cavity, creating a temporary artificial anus to assist the patient in excretion.”
After 3 hours of surgery, patient Nguyen Van Muoi's bleeding was stopped, his wound was treated and he is receiving post-operative care from medical staff.
It is expected that after another 3 months, the anal wound of patient Nguyen Van Muoi can recover function.
