Successfully rescued Nghe An fisherman with severe burns at sea
(Baonghean.vn) - Vietnam Maritime Rescue Force successfully treated a fisherman who suffered third-degree burns all over his body after an accident in the Vietnam-China joint fishing area in the Gulf of Tonkin.
At about 6:10 a.m. on June 1, 2019, the Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center (under the Vietnam Maritime Administration, Ministry of Transport) received a distress call from the NA93607TS ship, captained by Mr. Dao Van Nguyen (Quynh Long commune, Quynh Luu district), while the fishing boat was exploiting seafood in the Gulf of Tonkin.

According to information, while working with other workers, Mr. Nguyen was suddenly burned by steam, causing blisters all over his body and peeling skin on his head and face, a very dangerous condition that threatened his life.
Discovering that Mr. Nguyen had suffered burns, the workers on the ship applied traditional first aid measures but could not reduce the victim's pain. Immediately, the crew on the ship requested emergency rescue.
At this time, the area where Mr. Nguyen's fishing boat was operating was about 107 nautical miles East Northeast of Cua Lo - Nghe An.
Upon receiving the information, the Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center immediately connected and requested the ship to regularly maintain contact on frequency 7960 kHz to update the ship's location and the victim's health status, and at the same time provide advice and instructions on first aid measures for Mr. Nguyen.

During the consultation process via radio, the rescue team doctor determined that the crew member suffered third-degree burns or higher. If not treated promptly, it could lead to shock, systemic infection, and a very high risk of death.
Faced with the emergency situation, the Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center decided to dispatch SAR 273 ship from the Central Port of Region I in Hai Phong for emergency rescue.
After many hours of traveling at sea, at 3:48 p.m. on June 1, 2019, SAR 273 approached fishing boat NA93607TS. Immediately, the rescue team was dispatched to the fishing boat to provide first aid, stabilize the patient's condition, and transfer Mr. Nguyen to SAR 273 to get to the mainland.
At 8:30 p.m. the same day, SAR 273 ship brought Mr. Dao Van Nguyen safely to Cua Lo port. Afterwards, Mr. Nguyen was taken to the hospital for emergency treatment.
