Couple saved by selfie in valley

The couple were saved after taking a selfie at the spot where they were trapped and sending it to the rescue team.

A selfie taken by a couple in their 20s before they became stranded in Winnats Pass, Derbyshire, England, saved the lives of two people. They got into trouble on May 29 and were rescued the same day after sending the selfie to rescue workers, according to the BBC.

The rescue team said this was the first time they had saved someone thanks to a selfie. ValleyWinnats Pass is described as being very steep and full of caves.

Healthcare staffSteve Rowe, who was part of the rescue team, said the couple had described the location very well. "They sent us a photo, and said the dark cave they were in was the background of the photo." This helpedRowe and the rescuers went straight to where they were supposed to be.After sending the photo, the couple contacted the rescue team and said they would send another photo. Via text messageWhatsapp, the rescue team received the photo, then texted the couple. From there, Whatsapp software appeared with directions.

Rowe said that in his 15 years of rescue work, this was the first time he had encountered a case of someone being saved by a selfie. "Many people get into trouble because they rely on modern technology. But this couple knew how to use their phones and technology to help them escape danger," Rowe said.
