Three submarine optical cables connecting Vietnam to the world at the same time had problems yesterday afternoon, seriously affecting international internet traffic. The location of the broken optical cable has been determined, but the repair time has not been announced.

Schedule for repairing broken submarine cable has not been announced yet

Specifically, according to some domestic ISPs (Internet service providers in Vietnam), the location of the broken optical cables of the two main cable lines, Lien A and AAG, was determined this morning, August 28.

In particular, the Lien A submarine optical cable break is about 54km from the Hong Kong (China) landing station. As for the AAG submarine optical cable, it was broken in 2 sections, about 65km and 85km from the Hong Kong landing station.

According to ISPs, the recent outage was initially determined to be caused by the impact of a typhoon around Hong Kong. Immediately after the incident, domestic ISPs rerouted to ensure connectivity for domestic consumers.

However, ISPs also recommend that users, during this time, should use international Internet for important services, other services should be switched to domestic routes to optimize transmission capacity.

Currently, the schedule for troubleshooting has not been announced by the submarine cable management units.

Earlier, on the afternoon of August 27, a domestic ISP said that all three international submarine cable lines AAG, IA and SMW3 had problems affecting Internet connections from Vietnam to the world. The problem will affect all Internet connections from Vietnam to the US, Asia and Europe.

Dan Tri will continue to update you with the latest information about incidents related to these 3 important fiber optic cables in the near future.
