Successful removal of giant uterine fibroid weighing 7.8kg

The patient is Ms. NTP, born in 1973, residing in Co Do, Can Tho city. Previously, patient P. was transferred from Can Tho General Hospital to Can Tho Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital for emergency treatment with a very large fibroid tumor in her abdomen (bigger than a pregnant belly).

After receiving the patient, doctors at Can Tho City Maternity Hospital examined the patient.

After performing the necessary tests and consulting, the doctors decided to perform surgery to remove the uterine fibroid, leaving both ovaries intact to avoid excessive blood loss, which could endanger the patient's life.

On the morning of April 25, the surgical team of Can Tho City Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital, led by Dr. Huynh Thanh Liem, performed surgery to remove a fibroid tumor from a patient.

After many hours of surgery, doctors successfully performed surgery and removed a large uterine fibroid weighing up to 7.8 kg for patient P.

After surgery, the patient's condition is stable, the surgical wound is good and he is being monitored further at the Postoperative Room, Department of Anesthesia - Intensive Care - Anti-Poisoning Surgery of Can Tho Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital.

Doctor Huynh Thanh Liem, who directly directed the surgery for patient P, said: uterine fibroids are a benign gynecological disease, commonly found in women of childbearing age. If detected early, they can be easily cured.

However, if treated late, it can cause many life-threatening complications for the patient.
