Patient Chai had a large tumor in the lower abdomen for 2 years and went to Cua Dong General Hospital for examination. The ultrasound results showed that the posterior wall of the uterus had a tumor measuring 162x190mm, with a 7mm thick endometrium pressing against the rectum. After a specialist consultation, the doctors concluded that the patient had a large uterine fibroid and needed early surgery to avoid life-threatening complications.

The team of Master, Doctor, Doctor Thai Doan Cong - Deputy Director of Professional Affairs, Head of General Surgery Department successfully performed the surgery, removing a 4kg tumor and performing a partial hysterectomy. This is a complicated surgery, so it is very difficult to separate and stop bleeding, requiring the surgeon to operate meticulously and skillfully to control complications and ensure the safety of the surgery.

Ths.BSCKII Thai Doan Cong - Deputy Director of Professional Affairs, Head of General Surgery Department said: Uterine fibroids are large in size, if not intervened promptly, large fibroids will compress organs such as the ureter, rectum, bladder causing hydronephrosis, constipation, difficulty urinating and local complications such as menorrhagia, metrorrhagia, hypermenorrhea... A few cases can cause cancer affecting the patient's life.

Uterine fibroids are usually benign tumors, so they are usually not dangerous if detected and treated early. However, currently, the rate of women who do not have regular gynecological check-ups is still quite high, so the disease is often detected late, difficult to treat and can cause complications, especially during pregnancy. Doctors recommend that women should regularly go for periodic health check-ups, screening for gynecological tumors... Especially patients with abnormal symptoms such as abdominal pain, menorrhagia, heavy menstruation, should immediately go to a medical facility for examination.

With the advantage of being a satellite hospital of Bach Mai Hospital, Cua Dong General Hospital has examined, diagnosed, and effectively treated obstetric and gynecological diseases and successfully performed hundreds of surgeries to remove cervical fibroids, using laparoscopic surgery, open surgery, and uterine fibroid removal; bringing health and preventing complications caused by tumors to women./.
