The kidney in the upper right thigh of Hamish Robinson (UK) is currently functioning normally, but in the future it could cause the boy's death.

According toFox NewsDoctors diagnosed 10-year-old Hamish Robinson with a deletion in chromosome 7p22.1, which caused a fully functioning kidney to "stray" to the upper right thigh.

According to the Chromosome Disorder Outreach organization, the loss of chromosome 7p22 causes a series of problems from developmental delays, intellectual disabilities, organ malformations (mainly in the heart and kidneys), and facial abnormalities. To date, medical literature has not recorded any cases of chromosome 7p22.1 loss, so Hamish is likely the only person with this condition.

The 7p22.1 chromosome deletion is now named after the boy.

Hamish’s mother, Kay Robinson, said her son was born prematurely, five weeks early, weighing just 2 pounds (0.9 kg). At four months old, he underwent a hernia operation and has been seeing doctors since. In total, Hamish has been treated by eight different specialists, including an endocrinologist, an immunologist and a gastroenterologist.

At 17 months old, Hamish was diagnosed with a chromosomal disorder by a geneticist. The medical team believes this is the reason why the child is deaf in one ear, has severe asthma, has difficulty learning and has a weak spine. Hamish needs a device to help him speak.

Having never dealt with a case like Hamish’s, the doctors had no idea what would happen to him. Currently, the kidney in his right thigh is still functioning normally, but in the future, this organ could cause Hamish’s death. Not to mention, the patient also faces the risk of bowel cancer due to a genetic defect.

Hamish remains optimistic and enjoys life. He goes to school every day, takes part in mimes and practices karate.

"I don't understand how he does it," Kay said. "He inspires me so much. He is the greatest blessing in my life."
