Goat herding boy scored more than 27 points in university entrance exam

(Baonghean.vn) - With 27.35 points (Math 8.75 points, Chemistry 9 points, Biology 9.6 points, Physics 7.2 points), Nguyen Van Duc - a student of class 12C1, High School 1-5 became the candidate with the highest score in group B in Nghia Dan district.

I met Duc on a hot summer afternoon, when he was herding goats back from the hills. Like many other children in the countryside, Duc always took advantage of his time to help his parents with housework and farming after school. Neighbors always commented that he was a good and diligent child.

Nguyen Van Duc was born in Men village, Nghia Tho commune - a poor commune of Nghia Dan district, in a family of 3 sisters. It is known that Duc's older sister, Nguyen Thi Trinh, also achieved 26 points in block B in 2014 and is currently studying at the Military Medical Academy. Every day, Duc cycles more than 7km through hilly dirt roads to get to school. Understanding his situation, Duc always tries to study well.

Duc admits that he always "makes up for his lack of intelligence by working hard". Besides the time he spends helping his parents, he always wants to learn math problems and number sequences. For interesting and difficult problems, he often asks his parents' permission to go to the store to get documents and sets of questions to review and refer to.

In addition to studying, Duc helps his parents herd goats.

Commenting on Nguyen Van Duc, homeroom teacher Bui Manh Hung said: "Duc is very studious, obedient, has a sense of self-improvement, especially striving to improve every day. To achieve the results he has today is a process of continuous efforts and striving."

Living in a mountainous area, conditions are still difficult, especially in medical examination and treatment, so when asked about his dreams and future plans, Duc said he would enroll at Hanoi Medical University to become a good doctor. Although the road ahead is still long and full of obstacles, with the determination of this mountainous student, I believe he will be steadfast on his path.
