(Baonghean.vn) - For several months now, Chu Van An, only 9 years old, in Hamlet 4, Quynh Dien Commune, Quynh Luu District, has been stuck in a hospital bed, enduring the pain after each bone marrow aspiration and radiation therapy to fight the terrible blood cancer.

Being a good child, a good student, with good academic achievements, his parents and relatives all secretly thought that An would have a good future. However, unfortunately, when he entered the third grade, he started having pain in his joints and leg bones, making it difficult to walk.

An’s parents took her to district and provincial hospitals to find the cause, and the doctors diagnosed her with calcium and blood deficiency. Although she took medication regularly as directed by the doctor, her condition did not improve.

After that, she and her mother packed up and went to the Central Children's Hospital. The doctors ordered An to do a blood test and bone marrow aspiration to get the most accurate results. An anxiously waited for the results with the hope that An would be okay, but her mother was completely devastated and her legs could no longer support her when she learned that her child had leukemia.

Since the discovery of the disease, it has been 3 months, she has had to undergo 5 radiation treatments, and there are 10 more waiting for An ahead. Although she has a serious illness, struggling to face the painful needles, she still tries to keep a cheerful face, a clear, innocent smile on the hospital bed, making anyone who looks at her feel heartbroken.

This 2017-2018 school year, An has only been to school for one week. Because of illness, she had to temporarily put aside her favorite lessons in class, fun childhood games, and stay away from her teachers, friends, and beloved school to stay in a place she did not want to be.

An's father, Mr. Chu Quoc Khanh, said: An is very studious, so he always hopes to recover quickly so he can return home to study with his friends. Although he is still young, An always appears strong, trying to overcome his physical pain. Although they love their son but cannot bear the pain for him, his parents always try to borrow money to pay for An's treatment. Currently, An's father's bone marrow is also compatible with his, so the doctors have extracted bone marrow to transplant into his son to regenerate his blood cells and immune system.

It is known that since 2013, Khanh's family has always been among the poor and near-poor households in the commune. Therefore, Khanh has had to borrow money from relatives and siblings for medical examinations, travel, hospital fees, radiation therapy, and medicine. Also because of poverty, An's older sister had to put her studies on hold after graduating from 9th grade to help her parents raise her two younger siblings.

There is nothing valuable in the house to sell, so Khanh's family is very worried about earning money to accompany their son's treatment in the coming time./.
