The only thing the husband said made the mother stop criticizing her daughter-in-law
The American father of three defended his wife when his mother criticized her for not knowing how to clean the house.
Clint Edwards, an American father of three, shared his conversation with his mother on Facebook about her criticism of his wife’s messiness. According to Redbook, the status quickly went viral with tens of thousands of likes after being posted:
A few weeks ago I was talking to my mother on the phone. She asked me, "Does it bother you that your wife doesn't keep the house clean?" It was Saturday and I was washing the dishes. I didn't really know what to say. She didn't mean to hurt her feelings, she was just curious.
My mother noticed that our house was not tidy. But it was not just Mel's job to keep it clean. I saw our marriage as a close relationship, so cleaning was the responsibility of both of us.

I admit that my kids often leave things messy, food is still in the sink, and my drawings are still unfinished on the computer. I also admit that my house is not as clean as my mother's, but that doesn't bother me at all. In fact, I don't think about it.
I didn't know how to answer my mother... I remembered the advice my father gave me when choosing a wife: Go to your girlfriend's house unexpectedly, observe everything, you will learn a lot about that woman through how she takes care of the house...
Unlike my dad, I didn’t really think about a neat and tidy house when I got married. I thought about what I liked about her, how she made me feel. I thought about her smile, how sweet and thoughtful she was. And how Mel showed me that she was the kind of person my kids needed.

After a few minutes of trying to come up with the right answer, I told my mom, "I didn't get into this marriage for a clean house. I married her because she's the person I can spend the rest of my life with."
The silence stretched...
I loaded the dishes into the dishwasher. Finally, Mom said, "Well, maybe that's more important than a clean house."
Yeah, I think so too.
