A dental bridge with four false teeth fell into the bronchus, causing an old man in Thai Binh to have respiratory obstruction.

The patient underwent a gastroscopy at Thai Binh General Hospital to look for foreign objects but none were found. A chest X-ray revealed the dental bridge was lodged in the old man’s airway.

The old man was transferred to the Central Lung Hospital on September 23 with severe coughing and difficulty breathing. Doctors urgently performed an emergency bronchoscopy to remove the foreign object and relieve the airway obstruction, saving the patient's life.

Doctor Nguyen Le Nhat Minh, Head of the Department of Diagnostic and Interventional Endoscopy, Central Lung Hospital, said that the foreign object was a porcelain bridge with 4 molars 3.5 cm long. Currently, the patient can breathe easily and his health is stable.

According to Dr. Minh, the foreign object was too large and smooth because the denture was made of porcelain, so it was very difficult to remove.
