The 19-year-old opened the scoring with a simple finish from inside the penalty area in the 35th minute, after the Costa Rican defence were twisted by a cross from the right. In the second half, Lookman completed his double with a solo run through the opposition defence.

Costa Rica pulled one back late on, courtesy of a penalty. Randall Leal scored the rebound after his first shot was saved by England goalkeeper Woodman. It was the second time Costa Rica had found the net in the match, after the first was disallowed early in the second half.

The victory over Costa Rica helped England reach the quarter-finals of the U20 World Cup for the first time since 1993. The achievement of the foggy country team was directly contributed by Everton player, Lookman.

Lookman is one of the most valuable players in this year's tournament. Everton paid Charlton nearly $10 million in the January 2017 transfer window to sign the young striker. The Merseyside club will have to pay nearly $6 million more if Lookman completes future add-ons. In his first game for Everton, Lookman impressed when he scored the winning goal in a 4-0 win over Man City on January 15.

In the quarter-finals of the U20 World Cup, England will meet the winner of the Mexico and Senegal match.
