Previously, a non-British player who wanted to play in the Premier League had to meet many conditions. The basic criteria included: the quality of the previous team, the level of the previous team's national championship, whether or not they had played for the national team, and whether the football background had to come from a country with a FIFA ranking not too low (in the top 70). When these requirements were met, the player was granted a work permit in the UK and was eligible to play in the Premier League.
However, the new regulations from the Premier League and FA allow each club to register up to 4 players without having to meet the above requirements. Thus, it can be understood that each Premier League team will be allowed to sign and use 4 players from any country in the world, these faces do not need to meet any conditions. The new regulations will be applied from the 2023/2024 season.
In theory, this is an opportunity for players from developing football backgrounds like Vietnam to get closer to the top English club tournament. Currently, the 2023 summer transfer market of English football has opened. Teams can start making transfers to strengthen their squad for the new season./.
