Bridge degraded, people worried about collapse

(Baonghean.vn) - Mang Bridge located in Nam Son Commune (Do Luong) is deteriorating and severely damaged. Because this is an important bridge connecting National Highway 7, people here still have to cross it every day in fear of it collapsing.

The bridge is narrow so only one vehicle can travel on it.

Mang Bridge across Dao River in Nam Son Commune was built in 1982 with two parts: the lower part has the main task of carrying water for agricultural production, the upper part is paved with concrete slabs to serve the needs of people's travel.

However, due to being built a long time ago, after a long time of use, this bridge shows signs of damage and deterioration. The bridge surface is peeling in many places, the panels are broken, the bridge railing with small concrete pillars, interlaced with small iron bars, is rusty and has loose joints.

The bridge not only serves the travel needs of people in Nam Son commune but also for neighboring communes of Do Luong district who want to go to National Highway 7.

The bridge railing has deteriorated, posing a potential danger to people crossing the bridge.

Although thousands of people cross this bridge every day, the bridge is narrow, so only one direction of traffic can pass, while others have to wait their turn. When students leave school to go home, this bridge seems to operate at full capacity as a long line of people tries to cross the bridge.

Not only causing difficulties in traveling for people around, people in Nam Son and Bac Son communes who want to transport construction materials to build houses or other projects have to take a detour with a longer distance.

The commune government put up signs warning people about weak bridges.

Mr. Nguyen Huu Duc - Chairman of Nam Son Commune People's Committee said: Currently, the local government has put up signs at both ends of the bridge to warn road users. The Road Department has also come to survey and listed the bridge as weak. The commune hopes that all levels and sectors will soon have a plan to upgrade and repair the bridge to ensure convenient and safe travel for people.
