Passionflower is a vine with soft, hollow stems and sparse hairs. Leaves grow alternately, have 3 lobes, edges and both sides have fine hairs, and tendrils are curled. Flowers are white with a light purple center and filamentous appendages. Berries are yellow and edible.
The plant grows naturally on the edge of forests and hills. Many other species are also used such as Southern passionflower, Western passionflower, and egg passionflower.
Passionflower is used as a sedative to treat insomnia and nervous breakdown. People often boil young shoots and eat them in the afternoon or a few hours before going to bed. The usual form is a liquid extract with sugar, prepared as follows:
50g passionflower, 30g acacia leaves, 10g mulberry leaves, 2.2g lotus heart, 90g sugar, enough water to make 100ml, benzoic acid for preservation and enough alcohol to dissolve benzoic acid. Use 2-4 tablespoons per day, children 1-2 teaspoons. Drink before bedtime as a sedative, induce sleep, treat anxiety and restlessness.
Treat nervous breakdown: Use 8-10g of passionflower vine and leaves, boil and drink before going to bed.
Treat dermatitis and scabies: Use passionflower leaves to boil water for bathing.
In addition, passion fruit is used as a beverage with a cooling and nourishing effect.
How to make: Ripe fruit (the riper the more fragrant 0.5kg), cut in half, scrape out the core, squeeze and filter to get the fruit juice. Mix 250g white sugar with 1 liter of boiled water and let it cool. Pour the fruit juice into the sugar water, mix well.
