The extracted substances include tannins, reducing sugars, essential oils, terpenoids, and a white powder. This white powder is called Cirsium japonicum powder.
The powdered burdock root has the following properties:
- It is insoluble in organic solvents, high-proof alcohol, and cold water.
- It dissolves completely in boiling water, but after cooling for 2-3 days, it precipitates again like the original.
- It does not react with alkaloid, flavonoid, and other reagents used for the qualitative identification of compounds in plants.
- It is hydrolyzed by acids and alkalis at high temperatures, yielding a portion of reducing sugars.
- The powder contains 15 elements, of which calcium accounts for 0.018%.
- It has an effect on the S. aureus ATCC 29123 strain equivalent to Penicillin G at 1/8 of a 200-unit concentration.
- The powdered burdock root (in powder or suspension form, 5-10%) has good hemostatic effects on soft tissue wounds, as well as wounds in the spongy bone. The hemostatic effect of burdock root powder is comparable to that of Chinese SP powder and Calcium Alginate powder…
