The 2,500-year-old Buddha tree is still alive and healthy.
Scientists say the 2,500-year-old tree under which Gautama Buddha is said to have attained enlightenment and understanding is still alive and well.

Scientist Subhash Nautiyal and his colleagues at the Forest Research Institute in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, North India, affirmed: "The Bodhi tree (meaning enlightenment) is still perfectly healthy."
The Bodhi Tree is located in the city of Bodh Gaya in the state of Bihar, East India, a short distance from the capital.
After research and surveys, scientists removed the cement layers around the base of the trees to help them absorb water and nutrients through their roots.
The 1,500-year-old Mahabodhi shrine, located behind this sacred Bodhi tree, attracts a large number of tourists from all over the world, especially from Japan, every year.
