(Baonghean) - The 27th River Crossing Battalion of the 414th Brigade, Military Region 4, has Major Nguyen Hung Vy, renowned for his innovative ideas and experiences that not only benefit the unit economically but also create the most favorable conditions for his comrades during combat operations. For him, "Learning and following the moral example of Ho Chi Minh" means learning from simple actions, the smallest things in everyday life.
Born in 1969 in Bac Giang province but raised in Nghe An, Nguyen Hung Vy inherited his skills in identifying and repairing electrical machinery and equipment from his father, an electrical engineer at the Cau Duoc Cement Factory. After graduating from high school, he enrolled in the Automotive Technical High School in Son Tay, and was subsequently assigned to Company 8, Battalion 27, Brigade 414, stationed in Nam Dan district.

The River Crossing Engineering Unit is equipped with a diverse range of vehicles and regularly participates in disaster prevention and mitigation, search and rescue, and forest fire prevention, requiring rapid mobility across difficult, complex, and dangerous terrain. However, most of the unit's vehicles are outdated, significantly impacting the effectiveness of their missions.
Based on that reality, Nguyen Hung Vy constantly pondered and sought ways to improve the equipment, creating the best conditions for his teammates to complete their missions. He devoted his time and effort, even on his days off, to researching and purchasing relevant documents for reference, while also seeking opinions from his commanders and unit.
With a high sense of responsibility, a willingness to think outside the box and take action, and unwavering dedication, Major Nguyen Hung Vy, along with the unit's team of drivers, has mastered weapons, equipment, and technical vehicles, contributing to the unit's successful completion of its missions. Furthermore, he quickly adapted to, understood, and exploited the features of newly deployed equipment, actively repairing the unit's lawnmowers and electric fans, saving the unit tens of millions of dong.
After 20 years of service at the 27th River Crossing Battalion, Major Nguyen Hung Vy has made many technical innovations such as: improving the BMKT speedboat steering system combined with a training model for repairing steering system malfunctions; a remote-controlled hidden/visible target system for training and live firing; a water flow meter used in river crossing training reconnaissance; an energy-saving ferry command light and dock light set that increases the usage time of a pair of batteries/lights to up to 30 hours continuously; and an improved SUPUKIN measuring instrument used to determine slope for day and night operations.
Thanks to his dedicated work, Major Nguyen Hung Vy has been awarded the title of "Outstanding Soldier" at the grassroots and higher levels for eight consecutive years, and has been classified as an outstanding Party member for eight consecutive years. He was honored with a Certificate of Commendation from the General Political Department for his outstanding achievements in the workers' movement and trade union activities, two A prizes in the Nguyen Viet Xuan Creative Youth Award, and a Certificate of Commendation from the 4th Military Region Command for his outstanding achievements in the 2005 flood and storm prevention movement.
In 2011, he was honored with the title of "Outstanding Soldier of the Entire Army" by the Minister of National Defense, and currently, the 27th River Crossing Battalion, 414th Brigade, is completing the necessary procedures to propose that Nguyen Hung Vy be awarded a Certificate of Commendation from the Prime Minister.
