According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, the fruit has a bitter taste, a fragrant smell, and a neutral nature; its effects include dispelling wind, activating meridians, promoting diuresis, and regulating menstruation. The leaves have a bitter taste and a neutral nature; their effects include clearing heat, detoxifying, astringing, and stopping bleeding. The sap has a sweet and spicy taste and a warm nature; its effects include clearing the orifices, relieving stagnation, expelling phlegm, activating blood circulation, and relieving pain. The roots have a bitter taste and a warm nature; their effects include dispelling dampness and relieving pain. The fruit has the effects of dispelling wind, activating meridians, promoting diuresis, and regulating menstruation; it treats rheumatism, joint pain, epigastric pain and bloating, edema, difficulty urinating, urticaria, dermatitis, and eczema.

Instructions for use as medicine:
To treat tooth decay and toothache: Burn the sap of the mangosteen tree, then grind the remaining sap into a powder and apply it to the painful area.
To treat rashes, hives, and itching: Boil the leaves or bark of the plant to make a decoction, then use it to wipe or bathe the affected area.
To treat boils, bruises, and rheumatic swelling: 40g of *Saussurea involucrata* resin, 40g of pine resin, 10g of beeswax, and 10g of sesame oil. Heat until melted, stir well until thin, let cool, spread onto paper, and apply to the affected area.
To treat rheumatism, back and knee pain, limb spasms, and general numbness: use 20g of *Lonicera japonica* and 20g of *Pinus sylvestris*. Decoction for oral administration. Not suitable for pregnant women.
Treatment for sudden hearing loss: 30g Pueraria lobata, 15g Ligusticum chuanxiong, 15g Angelica sinensis, 15g Paeonia lactiflora, 15g Acorus calamus, 10g Panax notoginseng, 10g Curcuma longa, 10g Cyperus rotundus, 10g Carthamus tinctorius, 12g Lophatherum gracile, 12g Ligusticum chuanxiong, 12g Lumbricus terrestris. Decoction to be taken twice daily, one dose per day; continue for 15-30 days.
To treat insufficient or blocked milk ducts: take 60g of *Lonicera japonica*, one *Trichosanthes kirilowii* fruit, and one snake skin. Grind into a powder. Take 8g twice daily with diluted wine.
Treatment for hernia caused by cold: 12g of *Lonicera japonica*, 12g of *Cynanchum stauntonii*, 12g of *Litchi chinensis*, 4g of *Platycodon grandiflorus*, 6g of *Cinnamomum cassia*, 6g of *Bupleurum chinense*, 4g of *Fennel*, 4g of *Saussurea costus*, 8g of *Citrus reticulata*, 12g of *Cyperus rotundus*, 12g of *Citrus aurantium*, 12g of *Alisma orientalis*, 12g of *Poria cocos*. Decoction for oral administration.
Treatment for sciatica: 10g of *Lonicera japonica*, 10g of licorice, 10g of *Gynostemma pentaphyllum*, 10g of earthworm, 10g of *Achyranthes bidentata*, 10g of *Angelica dahurica*, 10g of *Poria cocos*, 5g of *Saussurea costus*, 5g of *Atractylodes macrocephala*, 10g of *Angelica sinensis*, 15g of *Morus alba*. Decoction for oral administration.
