The 'Oak of Friendship' between Mr. Trump and French President Macron has suddenly died
The oak tree planted by President Emmanuel Macron and Donald Trump in the White House garden last year as a symbol of the strong ties between the two countries has died, Le Figaro reported. According to the announcement, the tree failed to withstand the phytosanitary checks carried out by customs after the tree-planting ceremony.
The oak tree planted by President Emmanuel Macron and Donald Trump in the garden in front of the White House on April 23 last year has died, according to Le Figaro newspaper.
As the publication recalls, the newspaper Le Monde previously cited anonymous French sources as saying that where trees had previously been planted, there was now only green grass. On Saturday, this information was confirmed.
According to the newspaper, the oak tree brought from the forest of the En area, where 2,000 American sailors died during World War I, and planted as a symbol of the strong relationship between France and the United States, could not survive the plant quarantine carried out by the US customs department after the “tree planting ceremony”.
In 2018, after a "tree planting" ceremony performed by the leaders of the two countries, the oak tree was sent to the quarantine agency that is required for all types of trees, seeds and soil imported into the United States to avoid the spread of diseases and insect breeding, the newspaper recalled.
