In the comedy film Tia Tui La Cao Thu, Hoai Linh plays Mr. Nho - a martial artist who lives quietly in the countryside in the South with his wife and four children. Everyone in the family has a certain talent. Mr. Nho has the ability to use acupuncture needles to cure diseases, the eldest son (Ngo Kien Huy) has the ability to jump from treetops to moving cars. The second son (Hoai Lam) knows how to use his energy to fly over water. His daughter practices martial arts using durian fruits as props.

This is the second time Hoai Linh and his son Hoai Lam have acted together in a Tet comedy after Quy Tu Bat Di in early 2015. The comedian shared that he knows that he has appeared a lot on stage and in movies in the past year, but he needs to fulfill a long-cherished wish. To perform the action scenes in the new film, Hoai Linh learned action mannerisms from stuntman Quoc Thinh.
My Dad is a Master is the fourth product of People's Artist Tran Ngoc Giau, after The House of 5 Fairies, Next Year I'll Come Back, and The Reluctant Nobleman. The new film is a mix of fighting scenes and comedy.

The story is about a family that practices traditional Chinese medicine. They live happily with their four children, all of whom are young men and women, in a peaceful countryside.
