On July 15th, the People's Court of Nghe An province sentenced Luong Van Hoc (born in 1942 in Cam Son commune, Anh Son district) to 4 years in prison for murder committed in a state of extreme provocation. Hoc's victim was his son, Luong Van Kham (born in 1971).

The trial revealed that Mr. Hoc was an alcoholic, frequently getting drunk, destroying household items, and had previously been publicly reprimanded.

Mr. Luong Van Kham was married and lived separately, and he often drank alcohol. On the morning of March 30th, Mr. Kham visited his father's house in a drunken state. His mother was away, so Mr. Kham went inside and sat down to talk with his father. After a while, the two started arguing. The two, drunk, quarreled for a while and then started fighting. Mr. Hoc grabbed a sharp iron bar and chased after his son. Mr. Kham escaped to the stilt house and set it on fire.

Seeing this, Mr. Hoc grabbed a hoe and repeatedly struck his son on the head until he saw him collapse in a pool of blood. At this point, local residents arrived, rushed in to put out the fire, and then called the police. Mr. Hoc was arrested shortly afterward.

At the trial, the panel of judges determined that Mr. Hoc committed the murder while in a state of extreme provocation. The victim's representative, Mr. Kham's wife, and Mr. Hoc's wife both stood up to request a reduced sentence for the defendant. In addition to the 4-year prison sentence, the defendant must compensate the victim's family with over 20 million VND.
