Cancer Diagnosis in 10 Minutes Through Saliva
The method of American scientists is predicted to create a revolution in early cancer diagnosis in the next few years.
According to RTE News, the cost of this “liquid biopsy” test is 20 euros (more than 22 USD). The test mechanism is to look for fragments of genetic material in saliva.
The team invented the method after discovering that saliva contains fragments of the genetic molecule RNA linked to cancer.

Experimental results on lung cancer patients show that this method has a “nearly perfect” probability.
“We only need less than a drop of saliva to get a result in about 10 minutes. The test can be done right in the doctor’s office while you wait,” explained Professor David Wong of the University of California.
“Early detection of cancer is very important... With this test, patients can check at home, at the clinic or at the pharmacy,” said Professor Wong.
The expert hopes the early cancer diagnosis method can be widely applied in Europe by the end of this decade. The test will continue to be tested on lung cancer patients in China this year.
In the final stages, this method will be applied to diagnose many different types of cancer, not just lung cancer.
