Policeman lost his life after his lover's confession

Hearing his girlfriend admit to having an affair with a colleague named Thanh, Mr. Luyen made an appointment to meet Thanh to resolve personal matters and was stabbed to death by the other person.

On August 11, the Hanoi People's Court brought the defendant Dinh Van Thanh (21 years old, from Bac Kan) to trial for murder. The victim in the case was Mr. Luyen (24 years old, police officer of Yen Binh district, Yen Bai province).

Being escorted into the courtroom by police officers, Thanh's eyes filled with tears as he repeatedly turned his head towards his emaciated mother who had traveled hundreds of kilometers to attend the trial.

According to the accusation, after finishing 12th grade, Thanh went to Hanoi to find a job. Here, he was hired to work at a hot pot restaurant in Ba Dinh district. During the work process, the 21-year-old man developed a love relationship with a girl named Huong (from Yen Bai), 3 years older than Thanh.

Since their relationship, Thanh occasionally went to his girlfriend's place to sleep overnight. On January 21, before stopping by her place, he texted Huong to let her know he was coming.

After the above message, Thanh received a notification from her lover saying that Mr. Luyen (her lover from the same hometown) was in the room.

After sending the above message, Huong was questioned by Luyen (who was sleeping with her at the time). Knowing that she could not hide the matter, the 24-year-old girl confessed that Thanh was a colleague. The two had had sexual relations together.

After listening, Mr. Luyen said he would meet Thanh. Scared, Huong promised to quit her job and return to her hometown, and at the same time called her lover not to meet Mr. Luyen. However, Thanh still went to meet him.

Investigation documents show that after receiving a call from Mr. Luyen to arrange a meeting place, Thanh took a kitchen knife. A scuffle broke out, the 21-year-old man pulled out a knife and stabbed his rival in the ribs, causing the victim to die later.

After committing the crime, the perpetrator fled and was arrested a day later.

In court, Thanh gave a devious statement in an attempt to reduce his sentence. According to the 21-year-old defendant’s testimony, he brought a knife to meet Luyen because he thought his love rival had some stuff on him, and there were a lot of people…

Listening to her son’s testimony in court, Thanh’s mother remained silent, occasionally leaning her head against the wall. Meanwhile, the deceased’s father said that since their son’s death, their family had fallen into poverty because they had spent all their assets on treating their son in the hospital and paying for his funeral.

“If defendant Thanh does not compensate the family, I will have to sell my house to pay off the debt. Because of Thanh, I lost my child and my house,” said the victim Luyen’s father.

Continuing, the man from Yen Bai told the panel of judges that they could not attend the previous trial because they did not have the money to go to Hanoi to attend the trial. This time they were able to go because a few days before, Thanh's mother tried to save up and sent them 3 million VND to go.

At the end of the trial, the jury sentenced Thanh to life in prison for murder.
