Orphaned boy admitted to 2 prestigious universities at the same time
(Baonghean) -Despite his poor family background and early fatherless death, Nguyen Huu Tuan in hamlet 6, Quynh Van (Quynh Luu) still overcame difficulties to pass the entrance exams to two universities at the same time with the same score of 26.
Small, thin, with an intelligent face and a calm way of speaking are the first impressions we had when we met Nguyen Huu Tuan (grade 12 A1, Quynh Luu 2 High School).
As the fourth child in a farming family of six children, Tuan's family life was very difficult. When Tuan was in 7th grade, disaster struck. Tuan's father suffered from liver disease and had to stay in the hospital for several months before passing away. After his father's death, life became even more difficult and miserable for Tuan and his mother. Tuan's three older siblings had just finished 9th grade and had to drop out of school to go to the South to work.
Tuan helps his mother with housework.
For the past two years, because of hard work, Mrs. Luan (Tuan's mother) has often been sick. In addition to her working hours, Mrs. Luan often goes to the market to sell goods, sometimes she carries bricks for hire to earn money to raise her children. Feeling sorry for her mother's hard work, Tuan told himself that he had to study hard and escape poverty. Since his older siblings went to work far away, in addition to his school time, Tuan often helped his mother with the crops, with housework, and tutored his youngest sister in her studies. On Sundays, Tuan also carried bricks for hire to earn money to buy more books. During his 12 years of school, Tuan has always been an excellent student, an advanced student. Not only that, he also won second prize in the provincial excellent student competition in Chemistry for grade 12, and third prize in the provincial Physics Olympiad for grade 11.
With the dream of becoming a doctor, when filling out the application, Tuan registered for the Military Medical Academy and Hanoi University of Pharmacy. When the results were known, Tuan and his mother cried tears of joy because they passed both schools, but Tuan will study at the Military Medical Academy because the State will pay for his education, so his mother will have less trouble. "Luckily, he passed the military school, if he passed another school, he would have had to drop out, because I am sick and it is difficult to support him to go to university," Mrs. Luan explained.
The school year is approaching, Tuan shared: "I will try to study well to graduate with a first-class degree because in the military environment, I cannot work part-time."
