Orphaned boy admitted to 2 prestigious universities at the same time
(Baonghean) -Despite his poor family background and early fatherless death, Nguyen Huu Tuan in hamlet 6, Quynh Van (Quynh Luu) still overcame difficulties to pass the entrance exams to two universities at the same time with the same score of 26.
Small, thin, with an intelligent face and a calm way of speaking are the first impressions we had when meeting Nguyen Huu Tuan (grade 12 A1, Quynh Luu 2 High School).
Being the fourth child in a farming family of six children, Tuan's family had a very difficult life. When Tuan was in 7th grade, disaster struck. Tuan's father suffered from liver disease and had to stay in the hospital for several months before passing away. After his father's death, life became even more difficult and miserable for Tuan and his mother. Tuan's three older siblings had just finished 9th grade and had to drop out of school to go to the South to work.
Tuan helps his mother with housework.
For the past two years, because of hard work, Mrs. Luan (Tuan's mother) has often been sick. In her spare time, Mrs. Luan often goes to the market to sell goods, sometimes she carries bricks for hire to earn money to raise her children. Feeling sorry for his mother's hard work, Tuan told himself to study hard and escape poverty. Since his older siblings went to work far away, in addition to school time, Tuan often helps his mother with crops, does housework and tutors his youngest sister in her studies. On Sundays, Tuan also carries bricks for hire to earn money to buy more books. Throughout his 12 years of school, Tuan has always been an excellent student, an advanced student. Not only that, he also won second prize in the provincial excellent student competition in grade 12 Chemistry, and third prize in the provincial Physics Olympiad in grade 11.
With the dream of becoming a doctor, when filling out his application, Tuan applied to the Military Medical Academy and Hanoi University of Pharmacy. When the results were known, Tuan and his mother cried tears of joy because they passed both schools, but Tuan will study at the Military Medical Academy because the State will pay for his education, so his mother will have less trouble. "Luckily, he passed the military school, if he passed another school, he would have had to drop out, because I am sick and it is difficult to support him to go to university alone," Mrs. Luan explained.
The school year is approaching, Tuan shared: "I will try to study well to graduate with a first-class degree because in the military environment, I cannot work part-time."
