The 'stopped abuse' guy talks about 'too many letters in the media'
When someone falls into adversity like "being a valedictorian but unemployed", "with 30.5 points, they cannot get into the police force", or because "they are a young unemployed father"... some people are determined to quietly strive, but others choose to... complain and write letters.
Well, that is also a way to achieve a goal. Someone's goal can be achieved, but society is affected, the most obvious effect is that there is a feeling of "complaining" more than striving. There are too many letters in the media, making many people feel that whenever they have difficulties, they can go on Facebook to write letters and complain and everything will be solved. Someone said: "Life is not always difficult, sitting and crying like Tam, then a Buddha or a Fairy will appear to help. Each individual must overcome those difficulties to assert themselves."

Ha Hong Viet, the boy who stopped abusing |
So, what impact do too many complaints and letters in the media have on young people and society? To listen and find out what young people think about the phenomenon of too many letters and complaints, the reporter had an interview with the young man who "stopped abusing" Ha Hong Viet about this topic.
Although passionate about and pursuing the field of information technology, a seemingly dry field, Ha Hong Viet (student of the University of Technology - Hanoi National University) is very sensitive to things related to the spirit. Viet once participated in a consulting group, sharing psychological issues, and heard many confidences of young people who were hurt by the contemptuous words of others. Therefore, more than anyone, Viet understands how important the spiritual and emotional life of young people is.
In June 2015, while surfing the web, Ha Hong Viet accidentally saw a series of pictures called “Stop Bullying” with a very meaningful message. From there, Viet created the series What is Bullying. At the same time, the 9x guy’s “Stop Bullying” campaign created a new wave in the online community, “stop bullying” became a familiar phrase to young Vietnamese people. The “Stop Bullying” page alone received 65,000 likes on Facebook after just over a month.
Therefore, when mentioning Ha Hong Viet, people are still familiar with the phrase "the boy who stopped abusing".
Recently, there have been many "complaints" in the press such as unemployed valedictorians, 30.5 points not getting into police academy... what do you think?
I always think that Vietnam is a country where it is very easy to find a job. What matters is your working attitude and determination. I also have a high school classmate who graduated as the valedictorian of the National Economics exam in 2015, and now his job is very stable. I think that "unemployment" must also be clearly defined as not being able to find a suitable job, not being able to work, or being discriminated against, hated, unable to get a job, etc. so that we can have the most objective views. For example, with 30.5 points, he could easily get into any of the highest-scoring departments of any other school, and even had a scholarship for the valedictorian, but because he insisted on taking the exam to enter the police academy, that's why that unfair situation happened. We need to have an objective view before evaluating things, instead of seeing injustice, not liking things, then condemning and arguing.
Is it true that the press and media today tend to reflect difficulties, complaints, adversities and "letters from the heart" while showing few examples of people overcoming adversity?
Complaining is always easier than trying, saying is easier than doing. Therefore, I think that people who can overcome adversity are always fewer than those who complain, blame circumstances and luck. There are still examples of overcoming adversity, such as the recent case of a janitor's daughter in Ho Chi Minh City winning a scholarship to Harvard University. But such outstanding cases are not many, so the difference as you mentioned is natural. I think the problem is not the press, but the community's reaction.
I find it seems that when people see a valedictorian who can’t find a job after graduating, they often blame education and the system, that they haven’t created conditions for these people to develop. But not many people realize the nature of the problem, in fact, the valedictorian of a university and a good employee in a business are not always the same. As a professor of a university said to students: “I predict that 5% of you will do what you study, and 95% will continue to study what you do.” Valedictorian is just a beautiful ending to a period of studying, and there are many more ahead, most of which are starting over from the beginning. Using the title of “valedictorian” to justify “unemployment” seems very forced to me.
As a young person, do you think this tendency will make young people no longer strive and save themselves before God saves them. The proof is that unemployed people kneel down and display “begging for jobs” signs in the middle of the street?
I don’t think young people will stop trying just because they read articles like that. The current generation of young people has a lot of potential, and more than anyone else, they understand that they can only develop best when they believe in themselves and find their own path. They will not give up just because they see others stop. The “helpless” cases like unemployed people kneeling down and holding “heartfelt letters” signs in the middle of the street are still only a minority.
Do you have any explanation for why society has so many "confessional letters"? Is it because everyone feels that "complaining is enough" so they want to complain?
I think there are many open letters because the community is interested in such things. Difficult and unfair situations often attract attention and sympathy. To help these "open letters" spread, we must mention the great contribution of the press and especially social networks. If we do something that is supported by the community, the possibility of us achieving our goals will be higher than working in secret. Actually, open letters are also a good way to achieve our goals, but that is not all. Open letters cannot guarantee that what we want will come true. But if we write open letters in difficult and special situations, I think people will be interested and argue.
What stories do you have, what do you share with those who have "accidentally" complained, are about to complain about things that "are not worth complaining about yet"?
I remember the story of a man who went bankrupt at the age of 60, but that didn’t stop him. He continued to travel across the United States to find ways to continue developing his career, and was rejected over 1000 times, but that didn’t stop him. Nothing could stop him, and that’s why we now have KFC stores all over the world.
Everyone will encounter difficulties in their life, and no one can help us overcome them except ourselves. I am a young person, and I always see that there are many opportunities for young people like me to develop. At the age of 60, people go bankrupt, start over and succeed, let alone us. We have health and a future, believe in ourselves, face difficulties, train our courage and determination, everything will be solved.
Thank you!.
