Cooling yellow lemon 30,000 VND/fruit "sold out"

Hanoi is experiencing scorching hot days, lemon is a cooling fruit that many people are looking to buy. The price of yellow lemons has skyrocketed to 20,000-30,000 VND/fruit but they are still "sold out".

An online seller in Yen Hoa (Cau Giay, Hanoi) said that the hot weather has made all customers want to get lemons early. However, today the supply of lemons is insufficient, she does not have enough to deliver to customers. More than a dozen people who ordered late yesterday afternoon have no goods today. Yellow lemons, also known as western lemons, have large oval-shaped fruits. This is a foreign lemon variety grown a lot in Da Lat (Lam Dong) and is quite expensive. Currently, it is sold for 130,000 VND/kg of yellow lemons, 1kg has 5-6 fruits. That is, each fruit costs between 21,000-26,000 VND.

Yellow lemons are sold a lot on the "online market".

Although the price is nearly 3 times more expensive than lemons, yellow lemons are still ordered by many people. Because they can be used as a refreshing and detox drink, as well as to decorate dishes, create a sour taste, etc. Compared to last year, the price of yellow lemons this year has increased by about 10,000-20,000 VND/kg but is not enough to sell to customers.

Paper lemons in the market are only 45,000-55,000 VND/kg, while yellow lemons are quite expensive, up to 120,000-140,000 VND/kg. In March this year, the price of yellow lemons fluctuated from 80,000-100,000 VND/kg.

This type of lemon is available almost all year round, but in the summer it often becomes expensive because of the high demand for drinks or cooling dishes. Yellow lemons are very fragrant, seedless, can be mixed into drinks, thinly sliced into salads.

In the market, yellow lemons are sold in abundance on the “online market”. The common price of lemons is 120,000-130,000 VND/kg. However, there are also places that sell them for 150,000 VND/kg (5 fruits), meaning 1 lemon costs 30,000 VND.

A wholesaler of yellow lemons in Da Lat said that due to the hot weather, wholesalers order large quantities of lemons to sell. These days, the smallest wholesale order is 30-50kg of lemons, while the largest orders are up to hundreds of kilograms. On peak days, they can wholesale 3 tons of lemons, while on average, it fluctuates around 2 tons a day.

Forecasts that Vietnam's pepper output this year will decrease by more than 15% have caused exporters to increase inventories while the harvest season is coming to an end.

According to the preliminary report of the General Department of Vietnam Customs, pepper exports in the first 4 months of 2023 reached a total of 102,539 tons of all kinds of pepper, an increase of 24,929 tons, or 32.12% compared to the export volume in the first 4 months of 2022. The average export price of pepper in April 2023 reached 3,157 USD/ton, an increase of 6.01% compared to the average export price in March 2023.

China and traditional markets have begun to import new goods but with low volume, due to concerns about the global economic recession causing the USD to continue to strengthen in the basket of strong currencies, making general commodity prices somewhat more expensive compared to emerging currencies...

The rising pepper prices have encouraged Vietnamese pepper farmers to start fertilizing and restoring their pepper gardens. Meanwhile, Indonesian pepper growers are expected to face an unprecedentedly bleak new crop. This situation has caused the world pepper industry to quickly become more vibrant in the third quarter of this year.

Specifically, at the end of the most recent trading session, Robusta coffee prices on the London floor continued to decline. The July spot futures fell by $42 to $2,540/ton and the September futures fell by $36 to $2,498/ton. Trading volume was above average. The inverse price structure narrowed the gap.

Analysts at National Australia Bank said the possibility of further rate hikes added to concerns about weak demand in the US. However, analysts said prices would rise as they expect Chinese demand to continue to improve through 2023, which would offset the decline in OECD demand.

Domestic retail gasoline prices on the morning of May 20 were applied according to the adjustment session on May 11 by the Ministry of Finance - Ministry of Industry and Trade:

Specifically, the price of RON 95-III gasoline decreased to 21,000 VND, down 1,320 VND/liter, and E5 RON 92 gasoline was 20,130 VND, down 1,300 VND/liter.
