Europe fights against fake toys from China
On August 1, the European Commission (EC) officially launched a campaign against counterfeit goods, especially toys, most of which come from China.
European Commissioner for Industry Antonio Tajani said one of the campaign's slogans was "Don't let an accident ruin your summer."
Speaking to reporters, Mr. Antonio Tajani gave an example of children's shoes produced in China with chromium content exceeding 6 times the permitted level. Chromium is a toxic substance that can cause cancer.

Mr. Antonio Tajani emphasized that the majority of toys sold in stores in Europe are made in China.
According to annual statistics published by the EC, about 58% of goods considered dangerous in Europe originate from China.
There are also nearly 500 billion euros worth of counterfeit goods, across almost all sectors, in circulation worldwide today, and this figure is expected to double by 2015.
Antonio Tajani announced that after this summer, the EC will present an action plan for the period 2013-2015 to strengthen control over European markets.
However, he said that no matter how strict the rules are, they are not enough to ensure safety. The important thing is that member states need to act to apply the rules set by Europe./.
