(Baonghean.vn) - Admitted to the hospital in a state of severe shock, circulatory collapse, low blood pressure and severe anemia, promptly treated by doctors at the Intensive Care Unit of the Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital, Moong Van May (born in 1999), a Khmu ethnic group, in Huoi Tho village, Huu Kiem commune (Ky Son) is still very weak.

Doctor Nguyen Hung Manh - Deputy Head of the Intensive Care Department said: "When receiving the patient from Ky Son District Hospital in an emergency situation, the patient had worms causing intestinal obstruction leading to intestinal necrosis and intestinal perforation. The family did not know to take him to the hospital early. The worms from the intestines went through the hole into the abdomen and liver. After diagnosis, the doctors performed emergency surgery and removed hundreds of roundworms from the patient's abdomen. The patient suffered from severe infection and poisoning due to multiple organ failure, requiring continuous filtration and blood transfusion."

May's situation is very pitiful, her mother died when she was only 1 year old, her father Moong Van Ta (Khmu ethnic group) suffered from mental illness, sometimes had seizures, tore his clothes, and left home to wander. Her uncle Moong Van Loi took May in and raised her, loving her but the family had many children and was poor, so May, like other poor children in the highlands, grew up struggling like a potato or cassava.

Due to a congenital defect, May's legs were not the same size, so when she was learning to walk, May often fell. During one fall, May broke her right tibia. Because her family was poor and had limited knowledge, her family only used leaves from the forest to cover the wound without taking her to the hospital. After a while, the wound healed, but her right tibia became stiff, forming a right angle. The broken bone turned into a false joint, making walking extremely difficult. May had to learn to walk with her remaining leg.

Feeling sorry for his orphaned niece, his uncle also sent May to school, but the school was far away, the mountainous road was difficult to travel, before she could memorize the letters and learn the multiplication table, May could no longer study, she stayed home playing around, every now and then hopping back to the old house, only to see her father in a naive, haggard state...

Ms. Le Na - Deputy Secretary of Huu Kiem Commune said: "May's family is poor, especially in difficult circumstances. Previously, they did not even have a house to live in, so they had to rely on social support programs and apply for additional bank loans. But now her mother has passed away, her father is mentally ill, so the old debt cannot be paid. Currently, May is receiving a policy for disabled children of 405 thousand/month, and the commune is preparing documents for her father to be approved for the policy for people with mental illness."

Currently, May has been transferred to the Intensive Care Unit for continued monitoring and care. Although her life is no longer in danger, her pulse, blood pressure, and multiple organ failure have gradually stabilized, but she cannot be weaned off dialysis. Moong Van May's treatment costs are covered by the poor household insurance. May's uncle and aunt who take care of her have been helped by the doctors, nurses, and staff of the Department, and have called for support for daily meals. However, the cost of dialysis and long-term treatment for her is extremely difficult.

Doctors at the Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital said that in the case of May's leg disability, the hospital will hold an interdisciplinary consultation to discuss the details, possibly having to break the bone to fix it, hoping to help her walk again. However, the treatment process for her is still long and expensive, the family's conditions are extremely difficult, we hope to receive support from the community, organizations, and kind-hearted individuals to support and share.
