Needing money to spend, Phong drugged his whole family and took antiques from the house to sell for billions.

On January 12, the People's Court of Ho Chi Minh City opened the first instance trial of two defendants Phan Tan Phong (born in 1987, residing in District 10) and Le Thi Xuan Qui (born in 1984, from Lam Dong) for the crime of "Robbery".

According to the indictment, Phong and Qui lived together as husband and wife without registering their marriage. They both lived with Mr. Nguyen Van Sieu (Phong's maternal grandfather) and two aunts.

In early 2015, Phong needed money to spend and invest in business, so he repeatedly asked to sell wooden, bronze, and antique items in the house. Hearing this, Mr. Sieu and his family members did not agree.

Phong immediately had the idea of giving his family sleeping pills and then calling someone to buy them. On March 8, 2015, Phong signed a contract to sell the antiques in the house for 1 billion VND and received a deposit of 300 million VND.

Next, Phong went to buy two sleeping pills and asked Qui to keep them until the day he could take action. At around 7:30 p.m. on March 11, 2015, Phong put sleeping pills in the water for the whole family to drink.

At this time, when the whole family was fast asleep, Phong called someone to come and deliver the goods and received the remaining 700 million.

The next day, Mr. Sieu and his family woke up and found their belongings missing, so they immediately reported it to the authorities. After investigation, the authorities urgently arrested Phong and Qui. At the investigation agency, both admitted what they had done.

At the trial, the defendant’s defense attorney argued that Phong’s sentence should be reduced because he also had a share in the assets. However, the prosecutor did not agree with the attorney’s opinion. In response to these opinions, the panel of judges, after a meeting, agreed to return the case file for further investigation on the asset issue./.
