(Baonghean.vn) - Due to inadequate pest control during the yellow-backed locust outbreak that began in early May, yellow-backed locusts are once again causing damage to several crops in Con Cuong, with the most affected area being Hamlet 2/9, Chau Khe Commune.

According to statistics from the Con Cuong District Plant Protection Station, currently 30 out of 50 hectares of sugarcane along the embankment in Hamlet 2/9, Chau Khe Commune, Con Cuong District, have been damaged by yellow locusts. The common density is 5-7 locusts/m².²High altitude: 10-20 cm/m²In particular: 30 - 40 com/m²Because locusts reach maturity at the 4th or 5th instar, their ability to move and cause damage is very rapid.

Fourth and fifth instar yellow-backed locusts are causing damage to sugarcane fields.

In response to this situation, the Con Cuong District Plant Protection Station directed and coordinated with the Chau Khe Commune Agricultural Board to guide the people in timely spraying. They advised farmers to use one of the specific pesticides such as Karate 2.5 EC, Sutin 5EC, Victory 585 EC… focusing on spraying according to the "four correct principles," while also applying manual methods such as using nets to catch locusts.

According to forecasts, the weather will continue to be hot and sunny in the coming period, interspersed with showers and thunderstorms in the evening. Food will be scarce (due to the harvesting of spring crops), creating favorable conditions for locusts to continue causing damage to sugarcane in the stem elongation stage and summer-autumn crops. Therefore, people need to proactively and promptly spray pesticides and closely monitor the locust infestation to prevent widespread outbreaks and minimize losses to production.
