Grandson bleeds from biting his lip, grandmother rushes in and beats nurse

A 61-year-old woman in Jiaxing City, Zhejiang Province, China has been detained for 10 days after beating a 30-year-old nurse, causing her to be hospitalized. The beating lasted for three minutes at a public hospital in the city on March 30,Jiaxing Televisionreport

According to the police report, the grandmother had previously taken her grandson to the hospital for treatment due to a high fever.Doctors suggested giving the boy an intravenous injection, but he was uncooperative and struggled when the nurse inserted the needle into his arm.

While the nurse was holding the boy's head, the boy bit his lip, causing it to bleed. Seeing the blood on his grandson, the grandmother was extremely angry and responded by punching the nurse in the face.

The nurse was stunned and fell to the floor, but the grandmother did not stop and continued to punch and kick her. Police investigation later showed that the nurse did not harm the boy in any way while treating him.

The grandmother was released on April 9 after being detained for 10 days.

Doctors and patients' relatives rushed to stop the grandmother when the nurse was assaulted.

Part of the reason the case has attracted so much attention in China is because it coincides with Doctors' Day in many countries around the world. China will also mark the holiday for the first time on August 19 to raise awareness of the contributions doctors make to society.
