Big fire after explosion at candy factory, 5 bodies found

The incident occurred at around 11am on July 29 in a steel factory right on the road at Km 19.5 Duc Thuong (Hoai Duc, Hanoi).

Some witnesses said that the fire broke out in a factory specializing in producing cakes. Because there were many foam boxes and cardboard boxes, the fire spread so quickly that people had no time to react.

"This factory has only one exit, so when the fire broke out, the only door collapsed, leaving many people inside with no way to escape," said a witness.

Witnesses living around the steel factory said that at that time many people saw black smoke and fire billowing from the steel factory accompanied by many loud explosions.

The residents then shouted to the homeowner and tried to put out the fire but failed. Many screams could be heard coming from inside the factory.

An officer in command of Fire Prevention and Fighting Department No. 13 (Hanoi Fire Prevention and Fighting Police) said that the unit mobilized at least 4 fire trucks and dozens of officers to the scene to put out the fire.

"Currently, the fire prevention force is actively coordinating with local forces to deploy plans to put out the fire and rescue victims. When more information is available, it will be announced to the press soon," said the commanding officer.

The commander of Hoai Duc district police said: "After 30 minutes, the fire was extinguished. Initially, the authorities determined that there were a number of casualties. However, the exact number must wait for the authorities to approach and inspect the scene."

According to the reporter, rescue forces have removed 5 bodies from the scene.
