(Baonghean.vn) - At approximately 2 PM this afternoon, residents of Hon Nen hamlet, Ma Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district (Nghe An province) discovered a pine forest engulfed in flames. Immediately afterwards, people arrived at the scene to extinguish the fire and save the forest.
Mr. Nguyen Van Can, the owner of the burned forest area, said: "The fire started at 2 PM, in a corner of the pine forest that my family has planted and managed for resin extraction for over 25 years. When the fire broke out, I called the village officials, and then the commune's militia and villagers came to put out the fire."
Due to the rapid spread of the fire, combined with strong southwest winds, firefighting efforts were difficult. After nearly two hours, with the efforts of local residents, the fire was brought under control. The estimated damage is approximately 1 hectare of pine forest.
After extinguishing the fire, local authorities directed the police and militia to secure the scene for investigation into the cause of the blaze.
