Run Windows 95 from... a web browser

The Windows 95 startup sound is ingrained in many people's minds, but how can we work with this operating system again without having to go through complicated installation setups, especially when floppy disks and CD drives are almost no longer used?

Andrea Faulds, a 19-year-old developer in Scotland, has found a way to run Windows 95 in a browser without any additional plugins, The Next Web reports.

Indeed, it was quite amazing to see a 20 year old operating system re-imagined with JavaScript support and one could play Freecell or even log into a DOS environment.

The project uses emscripten, an emulator written in C++ and JavaScript, so you can enjoy the full experience without plugins or reinstalling Windows 95 from scratch.

It's exciting to think about having an operating system built in JavaScript, distributed over the internet, and powered by a browser.

While the emulator still has a few minor flaws (Internet Explorer occasionally crashes inside the emulator), it's a pretty impressive demo to say the least, especially considering it was built by a talent who's only 19 years old.
