Chelsea said that defender John Terry has just signed a new one-year contract with the Stamford Bridge club.

Since his debut for "The Blues" in October 1998, the English midfielder has made 703 appearances for Chelsea.

Terry's previous contract was due to expire on June 30 and there has been much speculation about his departure.

Sharing on Chelsea's official website, Terry said: "I am delighted to sign a new contract with Chelsea. I hope to have a successful season with Chelsea. I also hope to continue to receive support from the fans."

Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia said: "I believe Terry remains an important figure in the dressing room and hope he will help us achieve success next season."

At 35 years old, Terry still shows that he is an experienced player with good stamina. Most importantly, Terry's presence in defense brings peace of mind to the whole team./.
