Chelsea officially fires coach Jose Mourinho
The "Special One" was sacked just seven months after leading the Stamford Bridge team to the Premier League title.
On the afternoon of December 17 (local time), Chelsea FC announced on its homepage that it had parted ways with coach Jose Mourinho. The decision was made at a meeting after the defeat to Leicester last weekend. According to BBC, Chairman Roman Abramovich personally chaired the meeting with Chelsea's board of directors.

"Chelsea and Jose Mourinho have today decided to part ways by mutual consent. We thank Jose for his enormous contribution since returning as manager in 2013," the Stamford Bridge team said in a statement.
The reason for the decision to fire him was given: "The board of directors and Jose both realized that recent results were not good enough, so the best way for both sides was to part ways."
Mourinho left when the team was in 16th place, just one point above the relegation zone and 20 points behind leaders Leicester. That situation made the prospect of Chelsea finishing in the Top 4 to find a place in the Champions League more uncertain than ever. In the Champions League, the situation was more positive when Chelsea won a ticket to the round of 16 as the group winners and will play PSG for a place in the quarterfinals.
The bright spots in Europe are not enough to help Mourinho save his increasingly shaky seat at Stamford Bridge, where he just signed a four-year contract extension on August 7 with the ambition of building a powerful empire similar to the one that Alex Ferguson established at Man Utd, or Arsene Wenger with Arsenal.
Despite being fired during his entire tenure at Chelsea, Mourinho is still the most successful coach in the club's history. He and The Blues won the Premier League three times (2005, 2006 & 2015), an FA Cup (2007) and three League Cups (2005, 2007 & 2015).
