Chelsea clinched the Europa League title in injury time.

Branislav Ivanovic's goal in the second minute of added time helped Chelsea beat Benfica 2-1 to win the Europa League for the first time in their history.

This achievement came less than a year after The Blues' Champions League triumph, making them the fourth team in history to win all three European trophies (Chelsea had previously won the Cup Winners' Cup in 1971 and 1998) after Bayern Munich, Juventus, and Ajax Amsterdam.

Meanwhile, Benfica continues its legacy of failure, having lost 7 out of 9 European Cup finals they have participated in.

From a personal perspective, this is also considered the most meaningful farewell for coach Rafael Benitez, who will leave Chelsea at the end of the season, and it adds to his collection of European trophies, having previously won the UEFA Cup (the predecessor of the Europa League) with Valencia in 2004 and the Champions League with Liverpool in 2005.

Another Chelsea hero, striker Fernando Torres – the scorer of the opening goal – became one of the rare players to win all the most prestigious trophies, from the World Cup, European Championship, Champions League to Europa League, despite never winning a national league title!

Chelsea were considered the favorites going into this match, having defeated Benfica in both legs of the Champions League quarter-finals last season.

However, due to the absence of John Terry and Edin Hazard, the London team was somewhat outmatched by the Portuguese team in the opening minutes.

Immediately after referee Björn Kuipers blew the opening whistle, Benfica proactively played an attacking game, pushing forward and putting pressure on Chelsea's goal. Cardozo had the first shot of the match, but his header missed the target.

Meanwhile, Chelsea played quite defensively, aiming to limit the opponent's attacking moves. In the 9th minute, Oscar had a great run down the wing but unfortunately missed the ball.

In the 11th minute, Benfica players unleashed two consecutive shots but were unable to beat Chelsea's defense.

In the 14th minute, referee Björn Kuipers issued the first yellow card to Oscar after the Brazilian midfielder committed a foul from behind on a Benfica player.

From a free-kick situation, the Benfica players executed a fairly smooth combination, but the team from Portugal was still unable to score a goal.

In the minutes that have passed, Chelsea have played rather poorly and it feels like they are playing without any motivation. Benfica have controlled the ball for over 60% compared to The Blues' 40%.

After initially conceding control of the game to Benfica, Chelsea players took the initiative to play more offensively and began creating attacking opportunities towards goalkeeper Artur Moraes's goal.

In the 31st minute, Benfica were awarded a free kick just outside the penalty area after Ivanovic fouled Gaitan. However, striker Cardozo failed to capitalize on the opportunity and convert it into a goal.

In the 33rd minute, Gaitan produced a rather skillful chip shot, but the ball went too high over Chelsea's goal.

Benfica continues to put pressure on Chelsea, but they seem to be struggling to find a way to score.

In the 38th minute of the match, Lampard unleashed a powerful shot, but goalkeeper Artur Moraes was alert and prevented Chelsea's greatest ever goalscorer from finding the net.

The final minutes of the first half were rather uneventful, with neither team able to create any scoring opportunities. The score remained 0-0 after the first 45 minutes.

Entering the second half, Benfica were the more attacking team. Their offensive plays were much more powerful than what they showed in the first half.

In the 51st minute, Cardozo headed the ball into Cech's net, but the referee disallowed the goal for Benfica. However, replays showed that the Benfica striker was offside.

Clearly, the second half was much more exciting. Chelsea also played a more attacking game, putting pressure on Benfica's half of the pitch.

For the past five minutes, Chelsea have been controlling the game and forcing the Portuguese defense to work much harder.

In the 60th minute, following a powerful clearance from Petr Cech, Torres confidently dribbled past Luisão and then goalkeeper Artur Moraes, opening the scoring for Chelsea with a 1-0 lead. This was also the Spanish striker's sixth goal in this year's Europa League.

After Torres' goal, the match became much more exciting. Benfica were forced to push forward even more in search of a goal, while Chelsea also felt much more relaxed.

Witnessing what was happening on the field, coach Jorge Jesus made two consecutive substitutions. Rodrigo and Melgarejo were taken off the field to make way for John and Lima.

In the 69th minute, Benfica were awarded a penalty after Azpilicueta handled the ball. Cardozo successfully converted the penalty to equalize the score at 1-1 for Benfica.

Having conceded an equalizer when their spirits were high, Chelsea were forced to start all over again. Torres had a chance but he couldn't beat Luisao once more.

In the 76th minute, Benfica suffered a major setback when Garay was unable to continue playing due to injury. Jardel was brought on to replace Garay.

In the 81st minute, Cardozo unleashed a highly skillful shot, but it was unable to beat goalkeeper Petr Cech.

In the 85th minute, Ramires had a solo run down the right wing, but his final shot was saved by Luisao of Benfica.

In the 88th minute, Frank Lampard unleashed a stunning shot, but luck was not on his side as the ball struck the crossbar of the Benfica goal.

The final minutes of the match were incredibly tense. And just when it seemed the game would go into extra time, Ivanovic became Chelsea's hero, scoring the winning goal to secure a 2-1 victory.
