Chelsea got off to a great start at St Mary's with the opening goal in the sixth minute. Eden Hazard surprised the Southampton defence and goalkeeper Fraser Forster with a turn from a tight angle and a shot with his weaker left foot.

Diego Costa had a chance to double the lead towards the end of the first half but was unable to beat goalkeeper Forster in a favorable one-on-one situation. However, the Spanish striker "atoned" for his mistake in the most impressive way. Costa performed a masterpiece from outside the 16m50 box, sending the ball flying into the far corner of Southampton's goal at the start of the second half.

The 2-0 score remained until the end of the match and helped Chelsea have their fourth consecutive win in the Premier League. Coach Conte's team continued to be in the top 4 and close to the leading group.

Chelsea currently has 22 points, just one point behind the three teams above, Man City, Arsenal and Liverpool.

The last time Chelsea won four consecutive Premier League games was in April 2015, when they were on pace to win the title. That season also saw Hazard in fine form, being voted the best player. After a disastrous season last year, Hazard seems to be getting back to his best, the qualities that have seen him being rated close to Messi and Ronaldo.

Hazard's strike against Southampton saw him score for the first time in three consecutive Premier League games. The Belgian midfielder showed off his technique, skill and strength in a nutmeg to keeper Forster. Hazard also passed the ball to Diego Costa to score the 2-0 goal.

Antonio Conte deserves credit for his success with a back three. Chelsea were exposed for their defensive weaknesses after defeats to Arsenal and Liverpool, but have since kept four clean sheets and scored 11 goals. The back three has allowed Chelsea to play more safely, but also effectively in attack.

Southampton had no space in Chelsea's 18-yard box and struggled to get a shot off in a good position. The home side had 55% of possession but only had one shot on target in 90 minutes. Southampton continue to be in debt to Chelsea, with their last two Premier League defeats at St Mary's both coming against the Blues.

Southampton’s Premier League-best defense couldn’t hold its own against the visitors’ explosive attacking stars. On a day of highs for Hazard and Diego Costa, goalkeeper Forster was forced to play second fiddle in goal and had to watch two difficult shots.
