The Italian coach had a difficult start at Chelsea, losing 0-2 to Rapid Vienna in a friendly yesterday.

Playing in front of 28,000 spectators in Vienna, Chelsea created many chances but could not find the back of the net.

Rapid Vienna opened the scoring in the eighth minute through 19-year-old Joelinton. Chelsea's defenders were sleepwalking in the game, allowing the home side's three players to combine freely in the middle. Goalkeeper Asmir Begovic had earlier saved Chelsea from conceding a goal by blocking a dangerous shot from Philipp Schobesberger.

In the 35th minute, Diego Costa had a chance to run down, dribble past a Rapid Vienna defender and shoot with his left foot but the ball went wide. A minute later, the home team had an answer when Steffen Hofmann faced Begovic but shot wide.

In the second half, Chelsea controlled the game but did not create many chances. The closest they came to scoring was when youngster Ola Aina's long-range shot hit the home team's right post. In the 83rd minute, seizing the opportunity from a careless pass from Branislav Ivanovic, Tomi Correa fired the rebound past Begovic to seal a 2-0 win for Rapid Vienna.

In this match, Conte used many young players because some of Chelsea's key players were still on vacation after Euro 2016. However, losing in his first time in charge in England was not a happy memory for the 46-year-old strategist. Not long before, Jose Mourinho had won in his debut match at Man Utd.
