Slashing drug addict friend, sentenced to 4 years in prison
(Baonghean.vn) - A young man in his early 30s, Tu Ba Manh has two criminal records. Because of a personal conflict, he chased and killed a drug addict friend and had to be hospitalized.
On the morning of May 31, the People's Court of Quy Hop district opened a criminal trial against defendant Tu Ba Manh (born in 1985), residing in Quy Hop town, for the crime of "Intentionally causing injury".
According to the indictment, at around 7:00 a.m. on July 7, 2017, after using Methadone to detox at the Quy Hop District Medical Center, Manh drove his nephew Tu Ba Tuan home.
When he reached the gate of the district medical center, he met Nguyen Khac Trung, a drug addict who was taking Methadone. A conflict arose between Manh and Trung. Manh slapped Trung in the face and kicked him, causing Trung, who was sitting on the motorbike, to fall to the ground.

After being stopped by everyone, Manh got in the car to take Tuan home. After about 10 meters, Manh saw Trung riding a motorbike behind him. When he passed Manh's motorbike, Trung used his hand to hit Manh's head and then drove in front of Manh's motorbike. At that time, Manh threatened Trung, "I'll kill you right now." Trung replied, "If you're so good, come to my house and kill me."
Manh took Tuan home, then took a 90cm long homemade sword from the garden and walked to Trung's house.
When arriving home, Mr. Nguyen Khac Huu (Trung's father) saw Manh holding a sword so he tried to stop him, but Manh grabbed a helmet and a children's bicycle and threw them at Trung. Manh held the sword with both hands and slashed Trung from above. Trung raised his hands to block but the sword cut his right hand. Mr. Huu turned around and hugged Trung from behind. Seeing Trung bleeding profusely, Manh panicked, stopped checking the scene and ran home.
After committing the crime, Manh fled to Ho Chi Minh City. In January 2018, Manh caused an accident while driving his motorbike and was taken to Dong Nai General Hospital for emergency treatment. Due to lack of money, Manh escaped from the hospital and returned to Gia Dinh People's Hospital (HCMC) for treatment, but was arrested by the Wanted Police Department and Binh Thanh District Police on February 2, 2018.
After being slashed by Manh, Trung was taken to the district and provincial hospitals for treatment by his family, then a request was made for an appraisal and a request to prosecute the case.
According to the conclusion of the forensic examination No. 210 of the Forensic Center (Nghe An Department of Health), the rate of bodily injury caused by the injury is 24%.
It is known that Manh has a bad personal history. In 2002, the People's Court of Quy Hop district sentenced him to 36 months in prison for "theft of property"; in 2016, the People's Court of Quy Hop district sentenced him to 45 months in prison for "illegal possession of drugs" and "theft of property".
The panel sentenced defendant Tu Ba Manh to 4 years in prison for “Intentionally causing injury”. Regarding civil liability, the defendant’s family must compensate the victim nearly 11 million VND.
