In 2013, the population sector successfully organized many events. Thanks to intensified communication and advocacy efforts, awareness and behavioral change among officials, Party members, and the public regarding the implementation of population policies/family planning were significantly improved. The implementation of projects and models aimed at improving population quality, such as: the project on population control in coastal and nearshore areas; the project on prenatal and neonatal screening; the project on premarital reproductive health examination and counseling; and the project on intervention to reduce gender imbalance at birth, continued to achieve important results.
In particular, the year saw many positive changes in indicators such as the crude birth rate in 2013 decreasing by 0.77% compared to 2012; the rate of third or subsequent births decreasing by 0.36% compared to 2012; the natural population growth rate of 11.5%; and the sex ratio at birth of 115 boys/100 girls, achieving 104% of the planned target. This also serves as a foundation and motivation for the Provincial Population and Family Planning Department to continue its decisive direction, management, and implementation in 2014 to reduce the rate of third or subsequent births, curb the increase in the sex ratio at birth, and improve the quality of the population.
With these achievements in 2013, the Provincial Population and Family Planning Department was awarded an excellent emulation flag by the Ministry of Health, and the title of excellent labor collective by the Provincial People's Committee; 10 collectives and 16 individuals received commendations from the General Department of Population, and 75 collectives and 50 individuals received commendations from the Provincial Department of Health.
